10th Annual National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day Events at SCC on March 4 and 6
South Central College (SCC) will honor students pursuing a career and technical education (CTE) program in the fall at its 10th annual National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day at SCC’s Faribault Campus on Tuesday, March 4 and North Mankato Campus on Thursday, March 6. Each event includes a Signing Ceremony from 11 a.m. to noon, where participants will sign a letter of intent to hold their place in the program of their choice for next Fall Semester.
National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day, which is held each year at colleges throughout the country, was established by the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3). The event mirrors the NCAA’s National Signing Day for those who commit to playing sports in college. But instead of recognizing athletes, Signing Day pays tribute to those pursuing an education leading to a career in an in-demand field.
“I commend these students for taking this first step in preparing for a rewarding profession,” says SCC President Annette Parker. “The career and technical education they will receive at SCC will equip them with the skills needed in today’s in-demand fields, while also serving as a springboard for future education should they so choose.”
As part of SCC’s Signing Day, all participants will receive scholarships. Some will receive legislatively funded Minnesota Workforce Development Scholarships of $2,500. All other participants will receive $500 scholarships from the South Central College Foundation. Collectively, the scholarships total $115,500.
According to SCC Foundation Executive Director Erin Aanenson, “Contributors to the South Central College Foundation recognize the importance of career and technical education. Through their support we are able to ensure every student making a commitment to their education by signing a letter of intent is eligible to receive a scholarship.”
