Authorities Investigating House Fire Early Monday that Claimed Lives of Two Children
At approximately 2 a.m. Monday morning, Mankato Public Safety responded to a residential structure fire at 233 1/2 Bradley Street. Upon arrival, flames were visible from the upstairs apartment.
Two adults and three children were inside the top apartment at the time of the fire. An adult male and one child escaped without injury. An adult female was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center to be treated for her injuries. Mankato Public Safety is saddened to report that the house fire resulted in the deaths of two children. Names are being withheld at this time due to family notifications.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy, especially at the start of the new school year,” stated Director of Public Safety Jeremy Clifton. “We are working to determine the cause and will support those affected in any way we can.”
The occupants of the lower apartment were able to get out safely.
While the exact cause of the fire has not been determined, early indications suggest it was not intentional. The State Fire Marshal is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
