Charges were filed Thursday against a Duluth man in connection to the theft of the sticks of the Mankato West boys hockey team.

Cole Allen Saice, 23, faces a felony charge for aiding and abetting theft in St. Louis County District Court.

The criminal complaint alleges Saice took a large duffel bag containing about 40 sticks from the bus’ storage compartment at 5:09 am Saturday. The total value of the sticks was about $12,000. Saice returned at 5:51 am to take more items from the bus. Another man was located with a bag of sticks around 10:25 p.m., telling police he found it on the ground near a dumpster.

Officers found Saice at 1:32 p.m. Monday in relation to another incident. Saice admitted to taking items from the bus and dumping them behind a homeless shelter in Duluth.

Saice was previously charged with a gross misdemeanor for giving police a false name and a misdemeanor for receiving stolen property on Dec. 26 related to an Oct. 29 incident, according to court records. Bail was set at $10,000. The next court appearance for Saice is January 27th.
