The City of Eagle Lake has released its 2024 Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), outlining the quality of the city’s drinking water and ongoing efforts to address elevated manganese levels. The report, available online at the city’s website, assures residents that the water is currently safe for the general population. However, it does note that manganese levels exceed recommended guidelines for infants, prompting the city to encourage households with infants to consider in-home filtration options.

The CCR was announced via postcard to all households in the 56024 zip code. Unlike previous years, the report will not be mailed or published in local newspapers. Residents can request a printed copy by contacting City Hall at 507-257-3218. Along with the report, a detailed FAQ document has been provided to answer common questions regarding water safety and treatment options.

To permanently address the manganese issue, Eagle Lake continues to pursue funding for a new $14.1 million water treatment facility. While a $7 million request made during the latest Minnesota legislative session was not included in the state’s capital investment bill, city officials remain hopeful it will be considered in a future bonding bill. Earlier this year, Mayor John Whitington and City Administrator Jennifer Bromeland testified before the legislature to advocate for the project.

On the federal level, the city has submitted a $5 million Congressionally Directed Spending request as part of the FY26 federal appropriations process. The proposal has received strong support from Representative Brad Finstad and Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith. Although funding is not guaranteed, the city remains optimistic. Community members are encouraged to stay engaged and continue advocating for the project to help bring safe, clean water to all Eagle Lake residents.
