East wins eighth Tackle Hunger Trophy at “Jug Game” Friday, Sept. 12
The Tackle Hunger Trophy went to Mankato East High School, as its fans donated 233 pounds of food and $657 for a total of 890 pounds (each dollar counts for one pound in the competition).
Mankato West High School was not far behind, with 168 pounds of food and $702, for a total of 870 pounds.
The total of 1,760 is the third highest total for a Tackle Hunger competition, behind 2021 (4,480) and 2018 (2,265).
East has won the Tackle Hunger Trophy eight times; West has taken it twice.
Tackle Hunger started in 2015 and has been held every year since except 2020. The total raised through the fundraiser now stands just short of 14,500.
ECHO Food Shelf has been providing emergency food assistance to people in Mankato, North Mankato and surrounding communities since 1981. Each month, more than 200,000 pounds of found are distributed to more than 12,000 people in Blue Earth and surrounding counties.
