High Speed Pursuit, Stolen Vehicle Stopped in Mankato
Yesterday, deputies responded to a report of a Chrysler Pacifica traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Highway 60 in the area of Lake Crystal. Additional checks determined the Pacifica was reported stolen earlier in the morning from the city of Heron Lake in Jackson County.
Deputies located the stolen vehicle near the junction of Highways 60 and 169 traveling at 98mph. The male driver appeared to be the only occupant and refused to stop. The pursuit went north on Highway 169 through Mankato with multiple law enforcement agencies assisting.
Pursuit intervention techniques were utilized to slow the stolen vehicle and bring it to a stop including Stop Sticks and PIT maneuvers. The stolen vehicle was boxed in, and the driver was taken into custody just north of Highway 14 on 169 near the Happy Chef restaurant.
The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was identified as 25-year-old Devon Christopher Martinez of Rosemount. Martinez was taken to MCHS for complaints of minor injuries before being brought to jail to be held on charges related to the pursuit and stolen vehicle and an outstanding arrest warrant.
There were no injuries to uninvolved citizens, or the deputies, officers or troopers involved in the incident. There was minor damage to the squads involved in the PIT maneuvers and moderate damage to the stolen Chrysler Pacifica.
