Highway 60 Lake Crystal construction update

Despite recent heavy rains, substantial progress continues on the Highway 60 Lake Crystal project, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Current work underway includes:

  • Grading and base in preparation for curb, median, and pavement installation.
  • Paving on the west half of the project will begin soon.
  • Utility work, including removals and pipe installation.
  • Bridge repairs including deck patching and replacement of approach panels. Steel beam painting on the bridge over County Road 6 is scheduled to start soon.

Highway 60 has been closed since April 15 with through traffic detoured to County Road 13 and Highway 169. The project is expected to be complete in October, although timelines are subject to change depending upon weather and unforeseen circumstances.

The project includes:

  • Reconstruction of Highway 60 from Blue Earth County Road 20 to Blue Earth County Road 112
  • Utility replacement in coordination with the City of Lake Crystal
  • Bridge repairs
  • Intersection improvements
  • Construction of a pedestrian trail
  • Installation of lighting

MnDOT reminds motorists to avoid going around barricades or entering the construction area due to safety.

Mathiowetz Construction was awarded the project with a bid of $18,365,360.24.
