(St. Paul, MN)  —  Legislation is being introduced in the Minnesota House and Senate that would make Juneteenth an official state holiday.  Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, but is not recognized in most states.  Each bill would give state employees a paid day off and close state offices to observe the holiday.  The bills have both passed through committee and may reach the governor’s desk by the end of next month.  Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.
