Mankato Man Charged with DWI and Fleeing Police after Friday Morning Chase
A Mankato man was charged with DWI and Fleeing a Police Officer after refusing to stop early Friday morning. Abdirahman Omar Igalle was charged Friday in Blue Earth County District Court with One Felony Count of Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, which carries a maximum sentence of 3 years and one day in prison and a $5,000 fine or both. Igalle was also charged with DWI, refusing to submit to a chemical test, and one count of Duty to Drive with Due Care – Speed Greater than Reasonable.
According to the criminal complaint: On December 27, 2024, at approximately 2:11 AM, Mankato Department of Public Safety was patrolling westbound on Hoffman Road in the City of Mankato. DOPS was approaching the intersection with Thomas Drive and saw a vehicle approaching eastbound on Hoffman Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was traveling at approximately 76 mph in a 30 mph zone. The vehicle neither slowed down nor moved over when emergency lights and sirens were activated. From eastbound on Hoffman Road the vehicle turned northbound on Highway 22 driving in the southbound lanes at approximately 60 to 70 mph in a 55 mph zone. The vehicle then turned westbound on Bassett Drive, driving approximately 50 to 60 mph in a 30 mph zone. The vehicle then turned westbound on Fair Street and slowed down and stopped at the intersection with Itasca Drive. When the vehicle stopped, the driver was identified as Abdirahman Omar Igalle. Officers immediately noticed that Igalle had bloodshot and glassy eyes and noted a strong odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage. Igalle was transported to the Blue Earth County jail. Once at the jail, officers had Igalle submit to several field sobriety tests, all of which Igalle failed or performed poorly. Igalle refused to give a breath sample for a PBT.
A check of Igalle’s criminal history reveals a prior conviction for DWI from September 9, 2021.
