Mankato Man Charged with DWI, Drug Possession, Driving after Cancellation
A Mankato man was charged with numerous charges, including DWI, Drug Possession and Driving after Cancellation after fleeing police during a traffic stop. Shawn Trevor Reed Killingbeck of Mankato was charged Friday in Blue Earth County District Court with the following counts:
DWI within 10 years of a previous Felony DWI conviction, a Felony with a Maximum Sentence of 7 years or a $14,000 fine or both.
3rd Degree Drug Possession – in a School/Park/Public Housing Zone, a Felony with a Maximum Sentence of 20 years or a $250,000, or both.
5th Degree Drug Possession, a Felony with a Maximum Sentence of 5 years or a $10,000 fine, or both.
Driving after Cancellation, a Gross Misdemeanor with a Maximum Sentence of 364 days or a $3,000 fine, or both.
Obstructing the Legal Process-Interfering with a Peace Officer, a Gross Misdemeanor with a Maximum Sentence of 364 days or a $3,000 fine, or both.
Fleeing a Peace Officer By a Means Other Than a Motor Vehicle, a Misdemeanor with a Maximum Sentence of 90 days or a $1,000 fine, or both.
According to the criminal complaint: On January 24, 2025, Mankato Department of Public Safety was on patrol in Mankato, Minnesota, Blue Earth County. Officers observed a vehicle that the registered owner, Shawn Trevor Reed Killingbeck, came back as cancelled and inimical to public safety.
Officers initiated a traffic stop. Killingbeck, the driver, immediately got out of the vehicle. Officers told Killingbeck he was being detained. Killingbeck stated he did not want to be arrested again and fled on foot. A chase ensued.
Officers caught up to Killingbeck. Killingbeck physically resisted by tensing his muscles and pulling away. Killingbeck was also reaching into his coat pockets. Killingbeck was taken to the ground and he continued to physically resist.
Killingbeck was eventually placed in handcuffs. Officers observed Killingbeck was unable to sit still and continued to twitching appeared jittery. Killingbeck’s eyes were glassy and his pupils appeared dilated. Killingbeck was also speaking at a fast pace. A large pocket knife was located near the scene. Officers also found a bubble pipe with burnt white residue and a baggie with a white crystal substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine on the ground where the physical altercation took place (next to a park).
Killingbeck provided a blood test. Inside the vehicle, officers found a pill with markings. Using a pill identifier, it appeared that the pill was amphetamine/dextroamphetamine. Killingbeck has a prior conviction for 5th degree-controlled substance. Killingbeck has three prior DWI convictions in the last 10 years.
