A Mankato man was charged with possession of Shoplifting Materials and Theft. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 1:02 p.m. Mankato Department of Public Safety responded to an in-progress shoplifting at Scheels in Mankato. The complainant, Loss Prevention employee, reported the following:

  • There was a person actively stealing merchandise.
  • The male has a duffel bag that he is concealing items into.
  • He came into Scheels with the duffel bag, which was empty.

The suspect was described as:

  • Black male
  • Red winter hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Gray/black sweatshirt
  • Blue sweatpants

Officers arrived on scene, making contact with the employee in the Loss Prevention Office. The employee stated that the male came into business with an empty duffel bag, and was concealing items of clothing inside of the bag. The male, later identified as Albert Brown Lurks Jr, was seen still in business via CCTV. While Officers were in the office, they witnessed Albert take a shirt from the display and place it in the duffel bag that was around his shoulder. Albert then exited Scheels, passing all points of sale and apparently refusing to forfeit the merchandise. The Loss Prevention Employee and officers caught up with Albert, who was outside and refusing to stop. Officers approached Albert, announced that it was the Police, and to place his hands behind his back.

The stolen items from business were recovered from the duffel bag, which are as follows:

• Nike Sweatshirt Retro – $100.00 value. • Nike Tee Legacy – $42.00 value.

It was obvious that the use of the duffel bag was for the intent of concealing / assisting Albert in the theft.

Albert is a known habitual suspect in shoplifting/theft incidents within the City of Mankato.
