McCarrell Inducted Into Small College Basketball Hall of Fame

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Former Minnesota State men’s basketball coach Dan McCarrell has been named to the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame.

McCarrell guided the Mavericks to a 284-189 record during his 17 seasons from 1984-01 and his 284 career coaching victories were the most in program history up to that time. During his tenure he coached, several All-NCC honorees, including Pat Coleman who was named the NCC Most Valuable Player in 1996. Coleman would go on to receive All-American honors as well.

Prior to joining MSU, McCarrell led the North Park College men’s basketball team to NCAA Division III championships in 1978, 1979 and 1980. He was named Kodak Coach of the Year three times with the Vikings and was named the NCAA Division III Coach of the Decade in the 1970s.

McCarrell was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Minnesota State Hall of Fame in 2009.
