Omar Suggests Push For Committee Removal Motivated by Bigotry
(Washington, DC) — Congresswoman Ilhan Omar says she is “proud” to once again be appointed to serve on the U-S House Foreign Affairs Committee – but new G-O-P Speaker Kevin McCarthy is pushing to have her removed from that committee. Omar suggested on C-N-N’s “State of the Union” that the effort is motivated by bigotry and said, “Many of these members don’t believe a Muslim, a refugee, an African should even be in Congress. ” Omar didn’t say she was accusing McCarthy of racism and added, “I’m just laying out the facts.” It would take a House majority vote to remove the Minnesota Democrat from the committee and at least three Republicans have said they do not support the move.
