Prime Time For Ice Dams
Ice dams are all too common during Minnesota winters. Early, heavy snow this season is posing an even greater risk:
Shane Zablocki owns Zablocki Roofing Inc. and says you can help prevent ice dams from forming by using a roof rake to pull the snow off of your eaves. It’s important to get the snow as far up as you can reach, but certainly past where the eave of the house meets the frame. If the snow isn’t removed, it can freeze at the edge, effectively damming up any water that tries to escape the roof. The water then folds back underneath the shingles and will cause damage.
