St. Paul Man Charged with Assault and Kidnapping in Blue Earth County

A St. Paul man was charged with Felony counts of Kidnapping, Assault and Strangulation in Blue Earth County District Court on Tuesday. John Leonard Scullark, Jr. of St. Paul was charged with seven felony counts including kidnapping, assault, threats of violence, and false imprisonment.

According to the criminal complaint: On December 15, 2024, officers from the Mankato Department of Public Safety were dispatched to a residence in Blue Earth County, following a complaint of a reported assault by John Leonard Scullark, Jr. (DOB: 12/14/1993). After the assault Scullark reportedly attempted to flee the residence in the victim’s vehicle.

The assault began at approximately 11:00 p.m. on December 14, 2024, and continued until approximately 11:00 a.m. on December 15, 2024.

A witness attempted to remove Scullark Jr. from the residence. Scullark Jr. reentered, took approximately $300 from the victim as well as car keys and attempted to flee the scene. A witness admitted to slashing one of the tires of the victim’s vehicle to prevent Scullark Jr. from fleeing and returning to Minneapolis where he lived.

John Leonard Scullark, Jr. had previously been convicted of the following qualified domestic violence-related offenses in the last 10 years: (1) Domestic Assault-Strangulation on July 11, 2022, in Court File No. 27-CR-22-5753; and (2) Assault-3rd Degree-Substantial Bodily Harm on February 20, 2020, in Court File No. 27-CR-1912631.
