Suspect assaults River Hills Mall security officer Friday
Mankato Department of Public Safety responded to a call shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening of a person acting erratically at River Hills Mall. The 31-year-old suspect was threatening mall patrons and security staff. The situation escalated when the suspect assaulted a security officer who was attempting to intervene. At that point the suspect took a metal winch from security that was being used to close mall gates. The suspect began chasing security officers with it.
Several Mankato Department of Public Safety officers responded to the scene and were able to apprehend the suspect following a brief foot chase in the mall. The security officer who was assaulted suffered minor injuries. No additional injuries were reported.
After being evaluated by medical personnel, the suspect was taken to the Blue Earth County Jail where he is currently being held. He is facing several potential charges, including: second degree assault; criminal harassment.
