Utilities Ask Minnesotans to Use Care Clearing Snow From Gas Meters
Utility companies in Minnesota want residents and businesses to protect their natural gas meters during this winter storm. Ross Corson of CenterPoint Energy says the meter can get covered up by snow and then gets hit by a plow or shovel:
“With the heavy snowfall and also with the wind that may cause drifting snow we’re asking Minnesotans to use extra care when clearing snow near their natural gas meters to prevent damage that might cause a leak or service interruption.”
He says homeowners should also make sure outside vents and air intakes for gas appliances are not blocked by snow or ice.
