Vine Hosting Program Addressing Scams

According to the FBI there has been an increase in financial fraud involving older adults, which has prompted efforts from the bureau to bring public awareness to this type of crime. Criminals frequently target older adults, who they perceive to be more vulnerable and have considerable financial savings. According to the FBI’s latest Internet Crime Complaint Center data, there have already been $1.6 billion in losses from January to May of 2024, up nearly $300 million from the same time period last year.

VINE is hosting a presentation about Scams next Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the VINE Adult Community Center. Matt Gladue, with the MN Attorney General’s Office will discuss common scams targeting older adults and how to recognize, avoid, and report them. Attendees will learn about the latest tactics scammers use and what to do to safeguard their finances and personal information.
