Winthrop Driver Airlifted after Semi Crash on County Road 4 Wednesday
On July 9th, 2025 at 12:17 PM, the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a semi versus passenger motor vehicle crash at the County Road 8/County Road 4 intersection. The semi driver, Samson Alemu (age 36) of Springfield, Virginia, was traveling westbound on County Road 8, when he failed to stop at the intersection and struck a passenger car. The driver of the passenger car, Kari Vassar (age 53) of Winthrop was traveling northbound on County Road 4 at the time of the crash. Both vehicles sustain heavy disabling damage. Vassar sustained moderate to severe injuries and was air lifted by North Air Care from the scene. Alemu reported no injuries and was not medically transported.
