Published On: March 25th, 20250.8 min readCategories: News

Several Blue Earth County residents have been reporting receiving text messages from “E-ZPass” stating that they have unpaid tolls. The text includes a link and directions to pay the unpaid tolls to avoid penalties and legal action.

This is a SCAM. Minnesota E-ZPass will never email or text you for payment or personal information. If you receive this text message or any text message warning of unpaid tolls, Do not respond, delete the message and block the phone number if you are able. DO NOT click on the link or provide any financial information. If you clicked on a link or provided information, take efforts to secure your personal information and financial accounts.

There is no need to report receiving these messages to law enforcement unless you have suffered financial loss. You can report fraud activity to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (https://www.ic3.gov/) or the Federal Trade Commission (https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/).
