Disneyland Removes Lyrics From “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” Song In Parade
(Anaheim, CA) — Disneyland is removing lyrics from the “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” song in the medley in its Magic Happens parade. According to the Los Angeles Times, the song was removed and replaced in the setlist with a song from the 1953 “Peter Pan” movie. “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” is from the 1946 “Song of the South” film that has been criticized for Black stereotypes and a rosy view of the South in its post-Civil War era. The song and characters also appear on the Splash Mountain ride, which has plans to be redone into a “Princess and the Frog” attraction. That announcement was made in 2020 after the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota.
