Tomorrow is the opening day of the firearms deer season.  Governor Tim Walz:

“This is really a family event. I mean I think going to deer camp, spending some time together getting ready, and getting out there in the stands is a big deal.”

Three Rivers Park District park in Champlin, Dayton, and Maple Grove is host to this year’s Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener.

Governor Walz says the economic impacts will be felt statewide:

“It’s the cultural aspect of the deer hunt but it’s also the economic impact of the deer hunt. This is a massive job creator. Folks who hunt will be the first to tell you they spend a lot of money doing this but it goes back into our communities.”

Governor Walz will be taking part in tomorrow’s hunt.

“We know that we have this great diversity of, you know, blessings in the wildlife, but you can also do it very near to urban areas. And so I think, again, going to folks who maybe haven’t ever done this or want to get into it, there’s a lot of folks that deer hunters are out there. You know, there are opportunities to teach you how to do this. It’s just really, you know, it’s just a really Minnesota thing.”
