  • The Minnesota Department of Public Safety reports law enforcement made two-thousand-79 D-W-I arrests from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve. That’s 353 fewer than the 2023 holiday campaign. D-P-S officials say a driver with 21 prior D-W-I convictions was arrested following a crash in Brooklyn Center. A driver pulled over by police in Elk River had a blood alcohol content of .415, which is more than five times the legal limit. Around 300 agencies participated in this year’s holiday D-W-I enforcement campaign.
  • Rochester officials plan to honor the first woman elected in the area. A statue of Amelia Witherstine will be unveiled later this year in Central Park. She was first elected to the Rochester School Board in 1911. Witherstine later became the president of the board and was also the first woman to serve on a jury in Olmsted County.
  • The Supreme Court has upheld the TikTok ban. The law prohibits the popular Chinese-owned app from operating in the U.S. unless sold to an American company. This ban is set to take effect on Sunday. President-elect Trump is reportedly considering an executive order to save the app, which many have labeled a significant national security threat.
  • The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is encouraging adults to take a child ice fishing this weekend. Minnesota residents can fish without a license tomorrow through Monday as long as they are accompanied by a child who is 15 years old or younger.   • Police say a Willmar woman is under arrest for accidentally dropping a bag of methamphetamine in an Olivia convenience store. The Casey’s General Store reported a staff member found a baggie of suspected drugs on the floor Wednesday morning. Officers say it contained just under 26 grams of a substance that tested positive for meth. Security video helped identify the 59-year-old woman who dropped the baggie. She was arrested a couple hours later in Willmar and booked in the Renville County Jail on suspicion of second-degree possession of a controlled substance.
