- Twin Cities officials are predicting a mosquito invasion this summer. Metropolitan Mosquito Control District says the flying insects will increase in numbers not seen since 2020. They also say the early spring forecast is for several mosquito-free days due to lack of snow and lower river levels. That could change sometime this month when rain comes to make the area moist. The MMCD tracks the number of days above 40 degrees to determine when to start its annual treatment of 200 thousand acres of wetlands in the metro. They plan to get started on April 19.
