  • U.S. Senate candidate Angie Craig picked up another major endorsement today. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen Division 9 — representing a thousand railroad workers across Minnesota — is backing Craig in her bid for the Senate. That brings her total labor endorsements to 13 unions since launching her campaign just last month. In a statement, union chairman Joel Mueller said Craig has “a proven track record” of protecting the rights and safety of workers, and praised her support for legislation expanding railroad safety and preserving the Railroad Retirement System.
  • Richland County officials have issued a warrant for Ray Ruschel’s arrest, a man who gained national attention when he played football for the State College of Science in Wahpeton in 2022 at the age of fifty. Ruschel is charged with felony gross sexual imposition after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman while she was asleep in his Wahpeton apartment in November 2024. He denied the claims, despite D-N-A linking him to the assault.
  • St. Louis County in northeastern Minnesota has released results from a resident survey conducted earlier this year. Overall, people who responded say the quality of life in the county is good. Recreational opportunities scored higher than the national average, and county road maintenance got significantly better marks than in past years. Residents, however, voiced concern about ongoing issues surrounding the opioid crisis, homelessness, and poverty. Confidence in county government held steady compared to the last survey, taken three years ago. And ratings improved for 15 out of 22 specific county services.
  • The man convicted in the fatal shootings of two people in a tobacco store near the University of Minnesota campus will spend the rest of his life in prison. Twenty-seven-year-old Maleek Conley was found guilty of first- and second-degree murder in the December 2023 shooting deaths of Jamartre Sanders and Bryson Haskell. Police said Conley fired 24 shots inside the Dinkytown shop. An employee and another person were also wounded. Conley was sentenced Tuesday to life in state prison without parole.
