Mankato Man Arrested Near School and Park with Cocaine, Faces Felony Drug Charges

A Mankato man is facing multiple felony charges after being found in possession of cocaine near a school and park while wanted on an active warrant. According to a criminal complaint filed in Blue Earth County District Court, 35-year-old Spencer Ernest Pierce is charged with third-degree drug possession in a protected zone and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.

On June 27, 2025, Mankato Department of Public Safety spotted Pierce, and knew had an outstanding felony warrant. Pierce was walking near a city park and a middle school when the officer made contact and placed him under arrest.

During the encounter, Pierce handed over a small plastic bag he claimed contained “baking powder.” A field test later confirmed the substance was cocaine, weighing approximately 1.06 grams. Due to the possession occurring within a designated school and park zone, Pierce faces an enhanced third-degree felony charge, carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He remains in custody awaiting further court proceedings.
