Mankato Man Charged with 14 Felonies for Disseminating Child Pornography

A Mankato man has been charged with 14 felony counts of disseminating child pornography to undercover FBI officers. Charles Timothy Brown, age 50 of Mankato, was charged Monday in Blue Earth County District Court.

According to the criminal complaint: 

“In October 2024, the Mankato Department of Public Safety communicated with the Federal Bureau of Investigation regarding a suspect in Mankato that was disseminating child pornography through an internet application. Evidence was received from the FBI. Mankato Department of Public Safety learned that an individual that was traced to Mankato had distributed child pornography to the FBI who was working in an undercover capacity.

Through investigation, law enforcement was able to track the profile to an IP address. A subpoena was sent to the Internet company who provided the subscriber’s name as Charles Brown. Officers executed a search warrant at Brown’s residence and Brown let officers inside. Officers seized multiple electronic devices which will undergo examinations. Brown spoke with officers. Brown agreed that he used the internet application.

Between 8/11/24 and 10/25/24, Brown sent and received over 13,000 messages on the internet application.

21 videos were found in Brown’s account that were obvious depictions of child pornography. Of the videos, 9 were uploaded by Brown on six sperate days.”

Brown was arrested on December 13.

Brown didn’t deny sharing the videos but stated his memory is bad from military service.
