Mavericks Host 2025 MACs Honoring Best in Minnesota State Athletics

MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State Athletics honored its top performing student-athletes for the 2024-25 season in a ceremony inside Taylor Center Monday evening (Apr. 28), entitled the “Maverick Awards Celebration”, or MACs for short. The event featured ten award categories and was hosted by Director of Alumni Relations Brian Zins.

Individual award winners included the following…

  • Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) Athlete of the Year (Aiden Buendorf, track & field)
  • Male Newcomer of the Year (Rhett Pitlick, men’s hockey)
  • Female Newcomer of the Year (Noemie Thibaud, track & field)
  • Paul Allan Spirit of the Maverick Award (Junior Pontes Da Veiga, track & field, Finley Anderson, Ireland Broderick, Ryanne Mellum, softball).
  • Female Athlete of the Year (Adeyah Brewster, track & field)
  • Male Athlete of the Year (Alex Tracy, men’s hockey)
  • Georgene Brock Student-Athlete Career Achievement Award (Brooke Bolwerk, volleyball)
  • Don Buchanan Student-Athlete Career Achievement Award (Aidan Byrne, baseball)
  • Head Coach of the Year (Brian Bahl, soccer)
  • Team of the Year (Soccer)
  • Best Moment of the Year (Super Saturday, Football and Soccer win NCAA Quarterfinals at home on same day)
  • Best Play of the Year (Avery Korshing overtime goal vs. Central Missouri in NCAA Central Region Championship)

Rhett Pitlick (Male Newcomer of the Year) – Played 39 games and led the CCHA in regular-season scoring. He amassed 13 goals, 27 assists, and 40 points, including a team-best five game-winning goals. Pitlick was named CCHA Forward of the Year and All-CCHA First Team and was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.

Noemie Thibaud (Female Newcomer of the Year) – Thibaud earned All-American honors by placing 3rd at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She was the high jump champion at the NSIC Indoor Championships and holds the MSU high jump record. She also placed 18th at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 60 meter hurdles.

Adeyah Brewster (Female Athlete of the Year) – Brewster was the top point scorer at the NCAA Indoor Championships and was the National Champion in both the 60 meter hurdles and the Long Jump. She earned All-American honors in both events and posted the 5th fastest time in DII history to win the 60m hurdles.

Alex Tracy (Male Athlete of the Year) – Tracy was a finalist for both the Hobey Baker Award and the Mike Richter Award as a goaltender. Led the NCAA in GAA and save percentage. He started 38 games to help the Mavericks to a 26-9-3 overall record and recorded 5 shutouts.

Brooke Bolwerk (Georgene Brock Student-Athlete Career Achievement Award) – Bolwerk owns a 3.94 GPA in pursuit of her bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She has played in 103 career matches, including 369 sets with 109 kills, 2,484 assists, 813 digs and 66 aces. Her accolades include NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence three times and Academic All-District Team three twice.

Aidan Byrne (Don Buchana Student-Athlete Career Achievement Award) – Byrne holds a 4.0 Grade point average with a Business Leadership Graduate certificate. He also earned his bachelor’s degree in Management with a 3.9 GPA in spring of 2024. As a Maverick, he has played in 209 games, including 207 starts. He holds a career .365 batting average with 15 home runs and 166 runs batted in. Byrne was named CSC All-American last spring, as well as Academic All-District, NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year, and All-NSIC Second Team and All-Defensive Team.

Brian Bahl (Head Coach of the Year) – Bahl guided the Maverick soccer squad to a 18-2-7 record, which included NSIC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. In the NCAA Tournament, the Mavericks defeated Central Missouri to win the Central Region Tournament, then defeated Grand Valley State in penalty kicks to advance to the Final Four for the first time in program history. The Mavericks finished as National Runner-Up.

Women’s Soccer (Team of the Year) – Soccer finished the 2024 season 18-2-7 overallwhich included NSIC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. In the NCAA Tournament, the Mavericks defeated Central Missouri to win the Central Region Tournament, then defeated Grand Valley State in penalty kicks to advance to the Final Four for the first time in program history. The Mavericks finished as National Runner-Up.
