Minnesota competing with Michigan for early presidential primary in Midwest
State D-F-L Party Chairman Ken Martin contends Minnesota has the advantage, as the state competes with Michigan to replace Iowa as the early presidential primary state in the Midwest. Martin says Minnesota is the largest union state in the Midwest, with the largest LGBTQ population, and has a sizeable refugee and immigrant population and highest voter turnout in the nation:
“There’s a lot that I think we bring to the table here in Minnesota…. There’s not really many metrics that Michigan beats us on, to be honest with ‘ya.”
National Democratic Party leaders are looking for a different early primary state for the Midwest, after the data-processing meltdown during Iowa’s Democratic precinct caucuses in the 2020 presidential election year.
