Officials say don’t delay appealing if you were denied COVID “hero pay” bonus but still believe you’re eligible
State officials say certain groups of people were more common among those denied COVID “hero bonuses” because they weren’t eligible under Minnesota law. Department of Labor and Industry’s Nicole Blissenbach says, for example, those classified as “non-employees”…
“They may have been independent contractors. They may have been sole proprietors or business owners, but they didn’t meet the eligibility criteria in the statute.”
…because they were not employees. Blissenbach says they also received applications from people who *lived* in Minnesota but didn’t *work* here, who also weren’t eligible for the bonus. Among required qualifications: a person must have worked as an employee in the front-line sector in Minnesota at least 120 hours during the peacetime emergency. The appeals period runs through August 31st.
