Why did Republicans in Minnesota do poorly, when many predicted a “red wave” in the midterm elections?  Carleton College Professor Steven Schier says much post-election analysis has missed the huge resource disparity between the two political parties:

“The Democratic Party had at least six times the resources of the Republican Party.   They were so flush with money, they were able to run broadcast advertising for state Senate races… on television.”

Schier says Minnesota Republicans are simply not competitive with Democrats on monetary resources, turnout apparatus and numbers of volunteers — and it will be difficult for them to prevail in elections until they get closer to parity with Democrats in those areas.
