MN Senate Republicans demand immediate vote on eliminating state tax on Social Security benefits

For the second Thursday in a row, the Republican minority in the Minnesota Senate demanded an immediate vote on totally eliminating state income tax on Social Security benefits,  but Democrats said “no”:

“We will be discussing the contents of  the bill… and it’s not necessary to bring it up today.”

…New Hope Democrat Ann Rest.  Republicans point at Minnesota’s 17-billion-dollar budget surplus, but Mazeppa Senator Steve Drazkowski  says tax relief is at the back of the line for Democrats:

“Minnesotans want this proposal to be to the *front* of the line, on top, for us the deal with here today!”

Senate Democrats need Republican votes to pass the bonding bill for state public works projects that cleared the House earlier this week — but G-O-P Minority Leader Mark Johnson repeated that won’t happen unless Democrats show “good-faith movement” on tax relief.
