Mankato East Announces 2026 Wall of Distinction Inductees
Mankato Area Public Schools is celebrating four Mankato East High School graduates selected for the school’s 2026 Wall of Distinction. This year’s inductees are Richard Hamer, Christopher Kennedy, Jennifer (Studer) Pfeffer and Sarah Richards.
The induction ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in the Mankato East High School auditorium as part of Homecoming Day. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
The inductees’ accomplishments span health care research, law, senior care and manufacturing. Together, they demonstrate the many ways East graduates use their talents to serve others, strengthen communities and create opportunities for future generations.
The Wall of Distinction recognizes outstanding contributions to society by East alumni and provides role models for current and future students.
Richard Hamer — Class of 1977
Hamer co-founded Deft Research, a Minnesota company providing market research to health insurers, and led its growth for 16 years. His career also included work with the Clean Water Action Project, American Cancer Society and InterStudy Publications. A graduate of the University of Minnesota and University of Toronto, Hamer has shared his expertise through SCORE, helping entrepreneurs develop and operate their businesses. His community involvement includes youth coaching, church leadership and music.
Christopher Kennedy — Class of 1988
Kennedy has practiced law at Kennedy & Kennedy in Mankato for more than 30 years, serving individuals, families and municipalities throughout the region. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota Morris and his law degree at Washburn University. His commitment to expanding access to legal assistance has earned recognition from the Minnesota Supreme Court and repeated pro bono service awards. Kennedy has also contributed to professional education, volunteered with his church and supported school activities as a coach and chaperone.
Jennifer (Studer) Pfeffer — Class of 1981
Pfeffer devoted her career to senior care, leading organizations locally, regionally and nationally before retiring in 2026. During two decades as executive director of Ecumen Pathstone Living, she helped expand the organization’s services to meet a broader range of needs for older adults. She later held leadership positions with Ecumen and the Goodman Group. A Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate, Pfeffer’s honors include the YWCA Women of Distinction Award and LeadingAge Minnesota’s Outstanding Leadership Award. Her extensive community service includes leadership with local foundations, civic organizations and nonprofit boards.
Sarah Richards — Class of 1982
Richards is CEO and co-owner of Jones Metal Inc., a third-generation, woman-owned metal fabrication business in Mankato. Before entering manufacturing leadership, she built a career as a PGA golf professional. A University of St. Thomas graduate, Richards has championed women in fields where they have historically been underrepresented. Her service includes leadership with the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association International, support for District 77 STEM education, and involvement with the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota and other community organizations. She also mentors emerging leaders and entrepreneurs.
