AARP Pushes for “Paid Family and Medical Leave Act”
The number of family caregivers across Minnesota continues to rise. AARP State Director Cathy McLeer says that currently there are over a half-million caregivers in Minnesota:
“Providing that care and support for older parents maybe spouses partners or friends who really have some sort of a chronic or disabling illness or a serious health condition.”
McLeer says AARP is urging state lawmakers to pass the “Paid Family and Medical Leave Act”-which would provide up to 12 weeks of paid leave to care for a seriously ill family member or a worker’s own serious health condition. This would allow working family caregivers throughout Minnesota to take time off from their paid jobs, without the fear of losing their paycheck.
