BEC Sheriff’s Office Responds to Two Separate Crashes Involving Utility Poles

On the morning of 08-29-22 the Sheriff’s Office responded to two separate and unrelated motor  vehicle crashes involving vehicles hitting utility poles.

At 7:07 am a 2021 Toyota Rav4 driven by 75-year-old John Stephen Kanyusik of rural Mankato  was traveling south on Indian Lake Road near Doc Jones Road when it left the roadway and hit a  utility pole. The utility pole was broken off and is being replaced by Xcel Energy. The driver  was the only occupant of the vehicle and was uninjured even though the airbags were deployed  in the crash.

At 7:33 am a 2012 Chevrolet Impala driven by 32-year-old Kevin Michael Kair of Good  Thunder was traveling west on County Road 10 west of Beauford when it left the roadway and  hit a utility pole. The utility pole was damaged and will be inspected by Benco Electric  Cooperative. Airbags were deployed in the crash. The driver and the 31-year-old passenger,  T’Keha Janay Worthen of Mankato, were both transported to the hospital by ambulance with  suspected minor injuries.

Local fire departments and Mayo Ambulance assisted.
