Blue Earth County Public Works Facility Site Update
Blue Earth County announced in late June that a site had been selected for a new Public Works facility due to departmental growth. The proposed parcel was located at the southeast corner of County State Aid Highway 16 (Stoltzman Road) and 200th Street in Mankato Township.
As part of the city of Mankato’s Land Use Planning Process, prior to submitting a Request for Formal Amendment, Blue Earth County held three neighborhood community engagement meetings to present preliminary plans and offer an opportunity for the community to provide feedback on the project. After each of the meetings, Blue Earth County Commissioners and staff listened and worked to respond to concerns. Through feedback received at the meetings numerous modifications to the site layout, landscape design, access points, and community amenities were proposed by the County. As a result of the feedback received, the County has decided to seek an alternate location for the Public Works facility.
Blue Earth County plans to continue exploring land options to identify real estate that would provide operational efficiencies in terms of proximity to service demands along with locations that are cost effective. part of the process of selecting a site, staff will take land costs and other development costs such as grading, access to high speed internet, and proximity to sewer and water into consideration. In addition, operational costs will be considered as part of the site selection process especially access to snow plow routes and other road maintenance activities.
The County remains committed to finding a site that ensures the efficient and effective delivery of critical public works services now and into the future.
