Call for mental health crisis involves large emergency personnel response in downtown
At approximately 9 a.m. Monday, the Waseca County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Mankato Department of Public Safety in locating a male experiencing a mental health crisis. The individual was believed to be in the area of Riverfront Drive and Mulberry Street.
Responding Mankato Public Safety officers located the individual at the top of the Civic Center parking ramp and immediately began communicating with him. Due to the significant first responder presence at the scene and the need to provide emergency personnel with adequate space to safely manage the incident, both northbound and southbound lanes of Riverfront Drive near the ramp were temporarily closed.
Officers spent approximately two hours communicating with the individual and working to safely resolve the situation. Officers were ultimately able to reach him without incident.
The individual was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System for further evaluation and care. There were no reported injuries associated with the incident. Mankato Public Safety appreciates the patience of the community while emergency personnel worked to safely resolve the situation.
