City of Owatonna announces new Finance Director
The City of Owatonna has selected Alicia Fischer to serve as its Finance Director, bringing more than a decade of municipal finance leadership to the organization. Fischer officially began in the role on Monday, September 28.
Fischer brings extensive municipal finance experience, including her 10 years with the City of Waseca, where she served seven years as Finance Director. In that capacity, she led budgeting, financial reporting, long-term fiscal planning, and the implementation of best practices in public finance.
“As we continue strengthening our financial operations and aligning them with industry best practices, Alicia’s experience and leadership will be invaluable,” said City Administrator Jenna Tuma. “She has a proven track record of guiding municipal finance departments with precision, transparency, and strategic foresight. We are excited to welcome her to the City of Owatonna.”
Fischer, who has lived in Owatonna for many years, said the opportunity to serve the community she calls home was a central factor in her decision to join the City.
“I have loved living in Owatonna, raising my family here and seeing so many great things happening across the community,” Fischer said. “I wanted to be part of continuing to make Owatonna a great place to live and a thriving community. When I saw the job opening, it felt like the right move — a chance to bring my experience and knowledge to the table and serve the community my family and I are deeply invested in.”
In her new role, Fischer will oversee the City’s financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance functions. She will work closely with City leadership and all departments to ensure strong fiscal stewardship, sustainability and long-term financial health.
