Election: MN House and Senate

The latest analysis predicts Republicans will retain control of the Minnesota Senate and also grab a narrow majority in the Minnesota House.  And Hamline University political expert David Schultz says…

“If Republicans were also to pick up the governorship, they would have the trifecta and they would be in a position of being able to move legislation without probably worrying about a governor’s veto.”

But Schultz says if Democrats hold onto the governor’s office, it means continued divided government in Minnesota — although ratcheted-up because both chambers of the legislature would be controlled by Republicans.   He says if that happens it likely means continued gridlock for the next two years, and the possibility of government shutdown in 2023, unless the governor and legislature can agree on a new state budget.
