Tomorrow (Tuesday) marks 20 years since Senator Paul Wellstone, his wife Sheila, daughter Marcia, three staffers and two pilots were killed in a plane crash near the Eveleth airport — and the late senator’s family has now launched a virtual tour of the Wellstone Memorial and Historic Site in that Iron Range community:

Using state-of-the-art technology, the memorial site was filmed in 3-D to allow people from across the globe to walk the trail and learn more about Wellstone’s legacy.  Mark Wellstone says even though the memorial is near the site of the plane crash,  “it is about so much more than that tragic day in 2002.”  He says, “The memorial tells the story of my dad’s life, his career in public service, and his incredible devotion to improving the lives of Minnesotans everywhere.”   D-F-L Party Chairman Ken Martin says Wellstone “taught a generation of Minnesotans to expect more of our elected officials and to never lose sight of the fact that politics is about people, not power.” ‘
