House Fire in Le Sueur County Results in Total Loss

Le Sueur County Sheriff Brett Mason reports that on Monday, December 16th, 2024, at approx. 1454 hours, Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a house fire at 45157 Kilkenny Road, in Kilkenny Township. The fire was reported by a neighbor, who advised the house was fully engulfed with flames. Subsequently, the Sheriff’s Office Deputies, along with the Kilkenny Fire Department and the Montgomery Ambulance Service responded to the location.

After arriving at the scene, the Kilkenny Fire Department requested assistance with the fire from Waterville Fire Department.

The house was owned by David Daniel Sommers, age 61, who was home at the time of the fire. Sommers advised Deputies that he was sleeping on the main floor bedroom, when he woke up to smoke and fire in the residence. Sommers reported he jumped out a main floor window and received minor injuries that were treated on the scene by the Ambulance.

The house, along with multiple vehicles that were parked nearby are considered a total loss.

Due to the extensive damage/destruction, the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Le Sueur County Emergency Management along with the Red Cross and Salvation Army responded to assist with Sommer’s temporary needs.

Responding to the Fire were the Kilkenny Fire Department, Waterville Fire Department, Montgomery Ambulance, the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office and Le Sueur County Emergency Management.
