Klobuchar-Led Panel Advances Electoral Count Reform

(Washington, DC)  —  Senator Amy Klobuchar is helping to win bipartisan approval of changes to the Electoral Count Act.  The Minnesota Democrat is head of the powerful Senate Rules Committee, which is moving forward with an overhaul of the 19th-century law.  The panel signed off on changes that will make the vice president’s role in the election certification process a “ministerial” position.  The changes also outline how a three-judge panel would handle certification objections.  Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 while the 2020 election results were being certified by Congress.
