A Mankato man was charged with possession of Methamphetamine. Anthony Paul Johnson of Mankato was charged in Blue Earth County District Court Monday with one felony count of 5th Degree Possession, which carries a maximum sentence of 5 years or a $10,000 fine, or both.
The incident occurred on January 4, 2025, at about 10:25 a.m. Officers from the Mankato Department of Public Safety were dispatched to a vehicle damage incident. The suspect was identified as Anthony Paul Johnson. Officers learned that Johnson had a misdemeanor warrant for arrest in St. Louis County, Minnesota.
Johnson was searched incident to arrest and officers located two gem style baggies on a bag attached to his motor vehicle keys. One contained a crystal-like substance which later field tested positive for methamphetamine. The baggie and meth weighed 0.88 grams. The other baggie contained a brown powder that could not be identified and will be sent to the BCA Laboratory for analysis. Johnson told officers they keys belonged to him, but “nothing else.”
St Louis County authorities stated that transport to their county was outside of their mileage perimeters for misdemeanors. The warrant itself was issued for a failure to appear for court on February 1, 2024. The charge in Duluth was Disorderly Conduct.
