Mavericks Move to Fourth in Newest AFCA Top 25
WACO, Texas – Following a decisive 38-14 victory over Colorado Mesa last Thursday, the Minnesota State football team has advanced from fifth to fourth in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches Poll, as announced on Wednesday morning.
The Mavericks, now holding a 1-0 record, maintain their position as the highest-ranked team within the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Augustana follows at 16th after a close 63-58 win against Missouri Western, and Minnesota Duluth has dropped from 12th to 19th after a narrow 45-43 defeat at Slippery Rock.
Leading the AFCA poll is Ferris State, which holds all 31 first-place votes and a total of 775 points, following a commanding 42-14 win over the previously fourth-ranked Pittsburg State. Harding and Kutztown, both of whom were idle, remain in second and third positions, respectively, with Minnesota State and Colorado State Pueblo completing the top five rankings.
Minnesota State will commence its NSIC play this Saturday, September 5, at 5:30 p.m. CT with a match against the University of Mary at the MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck, N.D.
