Millions living with rare diseases, more research needed

Millions of Americans are living with a rare disease and in many cases don’t have access to accurate diagnostic tests and effective affordable treatments and cures.  Senator Amy Klobuchar says more research is needed.

“That means putting federal dollars into research and therapies because the investment that we make today is going to pave the way for cutting-edge treatments and cures of tomorrow.”

Klobuchar continues to work with the FDA on ways to get rare disease therapies approved faster:

“Sometimes you get suddenly — some really good results that you want to get out there to help patients more immediately.”

There are over 10,000 known rare diseases.
