One Minnesota lawmaker wants taxpayers to pay for college tuition for more kids in the state. Minneapolis Democrat Omar Fateh is pushing a plan that would cover all of the costs for tuition at Minnesota’s state colleges and universities. Families making up to 120 thousand-dollars a-year would be eligible, but Fateh says half of the state-backed grants would go to students from families making 40 thousand-dollars a-year or less. Fateh says not only would providing state money help more students get into college, it could reverse the trend of fewer people going to college in Minnesota. Governor Walz didn’t include a free-college plan in his state budget, so Fateh’s plan faces an uncertain future.
