Missing Henderson Man Found Safe After Search

On Thursday June 26th, 2026, at approximately 10:39 pm, Sibley County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a report of a missing person in a wooded area along the Minnesota River near 29728 St. Hwy #93. The incident was originally reported to the Henderson Police Department. Law Enforcement Officers, Henderson Fire and Rescue along with Ridgeview Ambulance responded to the area.

A search was conducted in the area by Law Enforcement Officers using both a drone from the Gaylord Police Department and Canine Ammo with the Sheriff’s Office. During the search an officer was able to faintly hear a person yelling in the wooded area. Deputy Horstmann and Canine Ammo responded to the area where it was believed the person may be.

Canine Ammo was able to track the missing person in the dense wooded area, which was about ¾ miles in the length. The missing person was located and identified as Marvin Petzel, age 77 of Henderson. Henderson Fire and Rescue assisted in transporting Petzel to a staging area and he was medically evaluated by ambulance personnel.

Assisting Agencies: Henderson Police Department, Gaylord Police Department, Henderson Fire Department, and Ridgeview Ambulance. Deputy Horstmann and K9 Ammo successfully completed their initial training at the end of May 2026 and have officially began patrolling together as of early June 2026.

The team is certified through the United States Police Canine Association and is now serving the community as a fully operational K-9 unit.
