The goals of a bill advancing in the Minnesota House are to increase the pay of state law enforcement officers and fill the open positions.  Representative Brad Tabke of Shakopee says these folks deserve competitive wages:

“Directing MMB (Minnesota Management & Budget) to make sure as we are considering pay for troopers, for conservation officers and folks in the like in that bargaining unit that we compare them to other law enforcement agencies and so.”

Tabke says the wage disparity is resulting in fewer State Patrol classes being filled and troopers leaving the agency.  His bill was referred to the House Public Safety committee.
