MnDOT Snowplow Operators Preparing for Winter Season
Around 300 Minnesota snowplow operators are meeting in Rochester this week and next to prepare for the snow and ice season. MnDOT District 6 spokesman Mike Dougherty says they are learning about safety updates, a salt scatter study, National Weather Service forecasting, and working with the State Patrol:
“Lots of stuff but it’s important now to get through because… we know winter is coming, we just don’t know when. So if we can get a lot of this good background education out of the way next week some of our new snowplow operators will be up at Camp Ripley at the snowplow operator training sessions.”
Dougherty says operators in southeastern Minnesota run 24-hour snowplow coverage during major winter storms. MnDOT has openings for part- and full-time snowplow operators.
