Moondogs win series over the Rox 2 games to 1; Face Duluth Wednesday
The Mankato Moondogs are the Great Plains West Division Champions for the first time ever, as the Dogs beat St Cloud last night 10-4, to win their best of 3 series 2 games to 1 over the Rox. The Dogs scored 3 in the 2nd inning to go up 3-0 early, the Rox would strike back with 2 in the bottom of the 3rd to make it 3-2. Dogs were up 4-2 in the top of the 6th, when Adrian Beltre Junior from the university of San Diego with an RBI double part of a 3 run inning as the Dogs went up 7-2. Beltre would single in two more in the 7th to put Mankato up 9-3. Beltre finished the game going 4 for 6. Tony Lira from the University of Arizona went deep in the win. Sam Stockman from the University of Utah and Elk River Minnesota, got the win on the mound pitching 6 innings, allowing 3 runs off of 4 hits, striking out 5 and walking 3
The Dogs will be in Duluth tonight to face the Huskies in the Great Plains Divisional Championship, first pitch at 6:35. The Winner will take on the Green Bay Rockers in the Northwoods League championship game tomorrow.
